What has the priority, the head or heart?
Prayer is not only conversation, it is transformation. It is not only light, it is fire. And the closer you get to Him, the hotter the fire gets. Words begin to melt. The first word that melts in His presence is the word 'I.' That is His unique name. The closer you get to Him, the harder it is to begin a sentence with 'I.' It melts in the fire of 'thou. |

The Flight From Conversation
We live in a technological universe in which we think we are always communicating. And yet we have sacrificed conversation for mere connection. We can counterbalance this tendency by actively and practically making space for real face to face conversation. |

The End of Solitude
The contemporary self wants to be recognized, connected: it wants to be visible. This is how we become real to ourselves by being seen by others. The goal now, it seems, is simply to become known, to turn oneself into a sort of miniature celebrity. How many friends do I have on Facebook? How many people are reading my blog? However, what is disappearing from our lives is solitude. The true origins of Jesus
Pope Benedict XVI dedicated his first general audience of the Year of Faith with a question: “Where do we believe Jesus comes from? The essential meaning of Christmas
Pope Benedict XVI dedicated his Angelus reflections Sunday to John the Baptist. Speaking to pilgrims and visitors he said John is the voice that passes, Christ is the eternal Word from the beginning of time. Our aim today is to listen to that voice, to give space and welcome Jesus, the Word that saves us, to our hearts. In this time of Advent, let us prepare to see, with the eyes of faith, God's salvation in the humble stable in Bethlehem. In a consumerist society, where we seek joy in things, the Baptist teaches us to live in an essential way, so that Christmas is not only experienced as an outward celebration, but as the feast of the Son of God who came to bring peace, life and true joy to people. | ||

Why Can’t We Be Virtual Friends?
As with all technological innovations, Facebook presents us with something like a double-edged sword. While it permits us to maintain friendships that otherwise would unfortunately wither away, its propensity to create and maintain such abundant friendships threatens to choke those friends that matter the most.
Too much information, too little thought
Silence and stillness are not enough for us. They might be for a little while, as an immediate escape from the din and demands of daily life. But they are means to an end rather than ends in themselves. In his Letter for World Communications Day Pope Benedict XVI shows how silence is meant to serve relationships – with God and others.
Paradoxes of a wired world
One of the paradoxes of digital communication is the tension between isolation and the thirst for contact with friends and colleagues. On the one hand, some seem to take refuge in virtual relations to replace direct conversations, because they lack empathy and social competence. On the other, the number of “friends” increases and the relationship to persons closer to us intensifies. The Homelessness of Man
What is wrong with the world? What is wrong is that we do not ask what is right. Social science is by no means always content with the normal human soul; it has all sorts of fancy souls for sale. Man as a social idealist will say "I am tired of being a Puritan; I want to be a Pagan," or "Beyond this dark probation of Individualism I see the shining paradise of Collectivism."
