And she started repeating it in a broken voice -- she died a few minutes later...Sanctified be pain! Glorified be pain! And I think the same now. This is my liberation!

Antonio López conversó sobre la belleza, la verdad y el arte en la segunda conferencia del Foro Universidad de Navarra (86,2 MB).

Ante más de 600 alumnos y profesionales de la Universidad, el pintor y escultor se cuestionó el concepto de belleza y la definición de arte. “Cuando comencé a pintar, pensaba que era algo fácil: que era cuestión de técnica, de aprender a dibujar, copiar unos modelos… Pero eso era sólo el principio. La pintura consiste en penetrar en los objetos, en la realidad, crear un mundo con los humildes elementos con los que cuenta el artista: un lienzo, un poco de aceite y unos pigmentos”, afirmo, “El arte consiste en materializar, a partir de tus propias emociones, algo que los demás puedan ver y entender”. Refiriéndose al arte español, Antonio López destacó que es mucho más difícil de comprender que el de otros países. “El arte italiano es muy grande, pero muy fácil.

La fascinación que produce hoy en día Leonardo, ya la producía entonces”, puso por ejemplo. “El arte español, ya desde Velazquez y Goya, está repleto de la vida, capta la esencia del mundo real. Pinta las cosas como son. Y precisamente por eso, siempre está en peligro, porque parte de algo a lo que no se le da valor: la propia vida.

Es siempre inadecuado, inesperado… y no se entiende. Por eso le cuesta encontrar su espacio”. “El arte del siglo XX es un ejemplo de veracidad y valor. El artista sincero se enfrenta muchas veces al rechazo del comercio del arte, pero también a su propio rechazo como ciudadano. Su trabajo es un acto de valentía y generosidad”, concluyó.

La conferencia estuvo organizada por Actividades Culturales, la Escuela de Arquitectura, la Facultad de Comunicación y FORUN.

Passing on the faith is a very long-standing issue, one that has been present throughout the two-thousand-year history of the Christian community. The Church has always seen herself as a messenger, entrusted with news that has been revealed to her and is worth passing on.

Hay campañas que nos gustan porque son emotivas, alegres o simplemente divertidas. Y hay campañas que nos hacen pensar; que se quedan en nuestra memoria porque apelan a nuestra conciencia, a nuestra solidaridad.

Rostros como los de los futbolistas Andrés Iniesta o Xabi Alonso, los presentadores Andreu Buenafuente, Manel Fuentes o Eduardo Punset, el cocinero Ferrán Adrià o los cantantes Pau Donés y Alejandro Sanz, se han puesto manos a la obra en esta campaña, cuyo broche de oro es el spot del cineasta Luis García Berlanga. Éste sería su última interpretación delante de la cámara, antes de fallecer el 13 de noviembre del año pasado.

En este breve reportaje (5 minutos) se puede ver toda la maravillosa gestación de esta campaña -el "así se hizo"- que nos hace partícipes del esfuerzo que supone la producción de un anuncio y la imaginación que se necesita para que una gran idea pueda llegar a todo el mundo.

Según cuenta el profesor, el conflicto se divide en la dimensión "racional", que tiene que ver con la falta de alineamiento en las ideas, y la dimensión "emocional", que abarca ya no las ideas sino la confianza entre las partes. En la mayoría de ocasiones, estas dimensiones van unidas y en su opinión esto complica el proceso de resolución de un conflicto. El profesor de Dirección de Personas en las Organizaciones considera que el conflicto ayuda a "avanzar, a replantearse, a buscar soluciones más creativas", sobre todo cuando se trata de un conflicto más racional. Cuando la dimensión afectada es la emocional, una buena solución del conflicto puede ayudar a aprender a perdonar, a conocer las limitaciones mutuas e incluso a "entendernos mejor y querernos más". El profesor de Dirección de Personas en las Organizaciones considera que el conflicto ayuda a "avanzar, a replantearse, a buscar soluciones más creativas", sobre todo cuando se trata de un conflicto más racional. Does the public appearance of the crucifix undermine the religious liberty of non-christians? Does it seriously contradict the State's secularity? There is a certain ambiguity to the word ‘freedom’. Some people say that to be free is to be independent—but we humans are clearly dependent on so many things. Some others think that freedom is the power to do whatever one likes—but this rather superficial definition will not resist serious scrutiny. We could rightly say that to be free is to have fulfilled all the potentialities of our nature—but this is a future freedom. In the present, freedom has to do with our personal choices, and the extent of our freedom depends on the quality of those choices.

Russell Wilcox, a researcher from England, who divides his time between Oxford and London, and whose principal interests concern Natural Law, philosophical anthropology and inter-cultural diversity, delivered a paper entitled “Nature, Language, and the Human Science ” to students and professors of the University of Navarre. The lecture addressed the relation between the knowledge of human nature and the normative ordering of human communities from an Aristotelian/Thomistic perspective.

Wilcox dealt with the subject of Natural Law and human action from a largely Thomistic perspective, whilst at the same time drawing insights from such thinkers as American linguist, Noam Chomsky and German philosopher, Jurgen Habermas.

The audience was mainly composed of students and professors from the fields of Philosophy and Law. After the lecture, which was delivered in English, an engaging and constructive dialogue took place with the audience on subjects raised by the paper. This event, organized by the Cryf Research Group, received financial support from the John Templeton Foundation.

A group of five students of Colegio Mayor Mendaur (Pamplona, Spain), led by Miguel Josa Martinez, was the winner of the "Pigna di Bronzo" in UNIVTube 2010. With the video entitled "Christian Politicians, seeking the common good," they managed to catch the attention of the public, offering a finished product of high technical quality.

The video contains extensive interviews with university students and professors, politicians and other public personalities. The video also includes some statements of Pope Benedict XVI, wherein he emphasizes the need for a new generation of Christian politicians who, being professionally well-formed, are committed to the common good and the defense of the fundamental values of the human person.

The BBC has made available the only surviving audio recording of the radio talks that C.S. Lewis later adapted to become Mere Christianity. It is of material that contributed to the third section of the book: "Beyond Personality." The original broadcast was on March 21, 1944.

A cours de la Modernité, la société s’est configurée autour des idées de liberté, de tolérance, de dialogue, d’égalité et de recherche de la paix. Pour de multiples raisons, à la fois historiques, culturelles, sociales, économiques, etc., ou en vertu de leur seule force, ces principes ont suscité un consensus un peu partout dans le monde, au point de former la base d’une culture mondiale.

Dans le discours prononcé à l’Université La Sapienza de Rome, en 2008, Benoît XVI souligna que grâce au développement des sciences au cours de la Modernité, la connaissance et la reconnaissance des droits et de la dignité de l’homme s’étaient affirmées avec davantage de force et constituaient un acquis qu’il s’agissait désormais de préserver. Il attirait néanmoins l’attention sur le risque que peut courir cet héritage si l’on perd de vue l’origine chrétienne de ses racines : « Si notre société veut seulement se construire elle-même en fonction de sa propre argumentation et de ce qui sur le moment la convainc et - préoccupée de sa laïcité - se détache des racines qui la font vivre, elle n'en devient pas alors plus raisonnable ni plus pure, mais elle se décompose et se brise. ».

Se si vuole farla corrispondere a quello che siamo, occorre integrarla e tra­scenderla – senza beninteso negarla – in vista di una dimensione che non parla il linguaggio dell’“utile” ma quello dell’“essenziale”. Penso che a questo corrisponda la ragione sapienziale il cui riconoscimento non è banale ma richiede attenzione; il suo misconoscimento –peral­tro– non passa inosservato, e di questo siamo tutti testimoni.

No generation has been more studied than the cohort sometimes also known as Generation Y: the young men and women who were born after 1979. This Generation has experienced the ideologies of the second half of the past century put into legislation -and is not happy with them.

La Universidad actual se encuentra en el filo de la navaja. Su posición es más notoria y brillante que nunca, porque estamos cruzando el dintel de la sociedad del conocimiento. Mas, de otra parte, las propias instituciones académicas están sufriendo un proceso de vaciamiento interno, ya que en ellas decaen los ideales que las vienen alentando desde hace ocho siglos. En septiembre de 2005 un importante político español regalaba a los medios de comunicación un buen titular trastocando cierta conocida expresión evangélica. «La verdad os hará libres» ahora se convertía en «la libertad os hará verdaderos». El orden de los factores altera el producto, y las dos frases se enfrentan como la noche al día. Lo que podría ser una ocurrencia quizás feliz, quizás de mal gusto, en realidad resume con magistral brevedad la idea de fondo que caracteriza en buena medida al actual régimen democrático.
